A plant-based fitness event is happening on Tuesday evening at RYU Apparel!

What’s happening: workout, food & drink tasting, networking, panel discussion, prizes (scroll down for details)!

DESCRIPTION

The Balanced Sessions is a series of health and wellness workshops designed to give everyone attending an evening of movement, food and drink, networking and education. On March 27th, we welcome Janel Brine and Shawna Barker to lead us through a sweaty workout and answer all of our questions about a plant based lifestyle and fitness regime.

Some of Vancouver’s finest local health and wellness vendors will be present offering samples and and a chance to connect over a drink and some food.

7:00 pm – Doors
7:30 pm – 45 minute workout with Janel Brine
8:15 pm – Food, drinks, networking and mingling
8:30 pm – Plant Based Fitness Panel – Shawna Barker and Janel Brine
9:15 pm – Wrap up, prizes and thank-yous.

About the Leaders:

Host: Danielle Boyd

Danielle is a physiotherapist from North Vancouver with a passion for health, wellness and travel. In her career as a physio, she realized that it is very easy to get caught into cycles of burnout and stress and decided to learn more about self care and stress management. In her quest to find balance in her own life and career, she began sharing the insights she gained through conversations with other health care practitioners and entrepreneurs on her blog and podcast. She held her first health and wellness retreat in Mexico this past October as part of her mission to help others find self-care strategies and give people a chance to unwind in a balanced way. The Balanced Sessions are her latest endeavor to help others find their own version of balance.

Janel Brine

Sports have always been the biggest part of Janel’s life. Her competitive drive is what brought her to high level sports and also what originally got her hooked on CrossFit and eventually led her to be invited to compete in the 2017 CrossFit Regionals. Janel is passionate about continually getting better, faster, and stronger in any sport she attempts and does so on a 100% Vegan diet. Janel played semi-pro Women’s tackle football but unfortunately had to retire due to knee injuries, but she soon found that CrossFit was exactly what she was looking for to fuel her competitive fire as an athlete. Little did she know, it would lead her to the most amazing and fulfilling career, as she took on coaching others. Janel is certified Level 2 Crossfit Coach and Certified Plant Based Nutritionist and is passionate about helping others become the best, healthiest versions of themselves.

Shawna Barker

Shawna Barker BSc., RHN is a nutritionist, raw food educator, college instructor, and an expert in plant-based nutrition. She is passionate about natural health and sustainable living. This interest led her to graduate with honours from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelors of Science degree in Food, Nutrition and Health, as well as the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition with a Diploma in Holistic Nutrition.

Shawna began her journey towards health and nutrition over 23 years ago when she decided to change her diet at a very young age and was determined to learn everything she could about nutrition, food science, natural health, and how to thrive on a plant-based diet.

As the founder of Synergy Nutrition, she is able to teach, inspire, and motivate her clients and students about the benefits of nutrition and natural health. Drawing from her background in both science and holistic health she is able to supply the inspiration and knowledge to support her clients’ health with a comprehensive program including individualized diet, supplement, and lifestyle recommendations.

Luckie Sigouin

Luckie is a vlogger/content creator focusing on living an optimized life! He has a strong call to make a difference in this world and loves to combine his love for documenting, traveling and giving back in order to create a social impact. He is a vegan endurance athlete and strong supporter of living a healthy lifestyle – a Luckie Lifestyle.
